Matt Lashoff invited to Canadiens training camp

The Canadiens have invited Matt Lashoff to training camp.  He has played 74 games in the NHL, and last season played in Zurich of the Swiss League.

We can surmise that he will be competing for a spot on the Bulldogs.  Like recent Bulldog signees Joël Chouinard and Drew Schiestel, he's an AHL veteran and  has decent size, comparable to them at 6'2" and 205 lbs.    He alleviates somewhat our stated concern about having too many righties on the blue line, since he shoots left.

Not earth-shattering news, but good news in the sense that the Bulldogs had a difficult season last year, and the Canadiens brass is taking steps and investing resources to ensure that the issues they faced are fixed.  As discussed previously, the kids tried hard but the team was lacking in areas, notably scoring and offence, veteranship, and size and toughness.  A depth move like inviting Matt Lashoff to camp is another indication that the young guns are going to have veterans to support them, and that they won't be outgunned every game from the opening faceoff.
